Why do Police Agencies give officers laser pointers for there side arms?

They give there S.W.A.T Teams laser pointers and other utensil for more precision aiming. I would thing an officer would be clever to defend himself/herself and place more accurate shots if they a laser arrow on the weapon. I know Glock makes laser pointers

It's more up to the personal preference of the Officer than anything.

I probably have the same Light/laser combo that Kev has but for me the weight isn't an consummation.

As a firearms instructor, I teach my Officers that

laser pointers consent to the officer to see where the bullets will hit without necessarily having to aim through the sights, which often takes venerable seconds in a situation where time is of the essence.

What make of gun do you use for home defense? what kind of ammo? be definitive. I will give the best answer to whatever gun/ammo combo i think is the A-one.
this question got pretty popular. personally i use my .40 smith&wesson sigma thats

Beretta PX4 Blow in .40S&W (loaded with Federal Hydra-Shok toneless points).

I put a tactical laser/light combo on the accessory rail by Sensitivity Technologies. .40 cal because that round offers the higher perspicacity (like a 9mm)
