Would it be normal to have a PA system in a room that is hooked up to an iPod as a speaker system be normal?

I was viewpoint about getting a PA system for whenever i needed huge speakers for something, and I wanted to separate if it would be normal to use a PA system as iPod speakers be normal. If not, would it test good?
