Why is my record player really quiet with no bass? What do I ground the record player to?

I upstanding bought a record player and I am running it through a DVD/receiver. I hooked it up using rca cables but the common-sense is really quiet and there is no bass. I do not know what I should inform it to. Could that be the problem?
Years ago, all height players needed to be run through a specific input on an amp called "phono". Now many record players have two settings..."phono production" and "line output".

I recently told my care for I wanted a record player. Obviously she told me no. I needfulness an extreamly cheap record player, under $30 for a song. I don't care if it's used as long as it still plays well. I be one with a speaker on it so i don't have
Pathetic to day you are not gonna get one for under $30. It will be hard to find a good one under $100. A most luxurious one is Numark PT01. It has a speaker & built-in preamp. It's $99 http://www.turntablelab.com/dj_paraphernalia /1/131/5017.html
